Briefly, my purpose here is to offer you guidance in your quest to become the best leader you can be. Whether you embrace leadership or are a reluctant leader, the chosen path is filled with danger and exhilaration. There is so much to learn, so much to do that the only thing I can promise you is that it won’t take a day. Truly, it will take a lifetime to become a revered leader. But over the next few months and years, you can become a credible, respected leader. It doesn’t matter if you are in the business, nonprofit or government sector. Excellent leadership is universal. It is in great demand because many would lead; yet few know how to do it well.

What is a leader? The short definition is that he or she is someone who gives direction or guidance.  He is not necessarily a dictator, though many dictators have been leaders in the sense that they direct those under their authority. Dictators do not give guidance, that’s the difference.  Other attributes of all leaders, virtuous or wicked, are being proactive, i.e. they make things happen through initiation, and they have excellent follow through. Meaning, they keep on top of things.

My service to you is also an act of leadership in that I am offering guidance, and direction to you in your growth as a person who would lead well. My follow through is the training I offer in specific skills to enhance your approach to leadership.  My approach is to deal with the whole human being. It is a mind, body and spirit challenge when we set out to improve ourselves.

To assist you in evaluating my approach to leadership, and whether or not we would be a good fit, you will find  additional information on my philosophy regarding leadership at the end of each page. There you will find a short bio of a leader that I admire. From these various leaders, I learned and adopted a specific leadership skill.

I have published one book on leadership training for aspiring politicians (Getting Noticed.) I will write a second book on leadership in general some time next year. Please continue your perusal of this site. When you are ready to move forward, contact me at Lauraspeaks@mac.com.

Athena is the goddess of the strategy of war, crafts, wisdom and heroric endeavors. The gray eyed goddess is the companion of leaders who call upon her for guidance. She is my chosen symbol because of her commission as the guide in the gaining of wisdom, the pursuit of excellence and the eternal stretch to reach beyond one's self. The owl became a symbol of wisdom (wise old owl) through its association as the companion of Athena.
